Hey Gang,

We are in the last few weeks of what has been an incredible time of gaining wisdom through our "Get Smart" series.  If you have been impacted by a "Get Smart" group send me an e-mail at PastorGreg@seacoast.org.

I want to let you know about a couple of things that are happening in October:

  • On October 28 Brad Singleton and the Internet campus crew will be going public.  Over the last few months we have been beta testing our internet campus, building a small core of attenders and working on the response time that is so crucial to what we do at Seacoast.  I want to ask you to Facebook, Myspace, e-mail, twitter and invite anyone that you know would be interested in church online to join Brad on October 28th at www.seacoast.org/internet.

  • For the over-achievers among us I want to let you know about our next series.  Near the end of October we will be studying the book of James together in a series, "Action Required."  Each week of this five part series we will be looking at a chapter of James and pulling out a theme of the book that can help us all become fully-devoted followers of Christ.

  • Start praying now for those people in your life that you can invite to Christmas Eve services at Seacoast Church.  At the time of this e-mail we are 81 days away from Christmas  Eve.  I would like to ask you to commit to spending just a few minutes every day praying for the people you will invite to hear the life-changing message of Jesus.  We will be giving you some tools to help you invite them soon.

Keep pressing on and worshipping, connecting, growing, sharing and serving Him!

I love being your Pastor,

Greg

New Series Starting in October
Action Required :: A Study of James

Though we may face trials, temptations, and even toils in life, God has left us instructions. The New Testament book of James is God's instruction book for faith in action.

Over the next five weekends we will look at this book written by the half-brother of Jesus Christ and find where our faith and action cross paths, resulting in a fully-devoted follower of Jesus.

Volunteer Spotlight
Tony and Laurann Wespy :: Long Point Campus

"Tony Wespy and his wife are the closest to being angels that I know of," says Lynn Young, the founder of Lowcountry Orphan Relief Fund.

The Wespys are Team Leaders for Lowcountry Orphan Relief Fund, which is an organization that fills in for the basic necessities of orphans where social and government aid stops.

At this facility you can drop off donations, prepare packages and send it straight to the orphans. Two of its most committed volunteers are Tony and Laurann Wespy.

The way they got started was simple enough. Seacoast church was organizing a move for Lowcountry Orphan Relief Fund to consolidate its three locations into one. For Tony's part, he had volunteered to help drive the truck. "The next thing I knew I was the coordinator," he laughingly added, "Be careful what you volunteer for."

Laurann's report of the events started out with Tony soliciting her to assist with the signup for the move. While helping out, she was approached by some ladies who were assigning positions for Lowcountry Orphan Relief Fund. One of them said, "Wow, you must have a heart for orphans." Amused about it now, Laurann was half thinking she was only doing what Tony had asked her to as a shaky, "Sure." came out. Something sure must have fit because she is still faithfully serving almost two years later.

Lowcountry Orphan Relief Fund is what Tony, Laurann, and their small group have chosen to be their community outreach. The group goes to help sort clothes and prepare packages. Periodically, they will go do things at the orphanages; such as, help build a library or do an excursion like taking the boys at Eagle Harbor, a home for neglected children, out to the movies.

When I asked Tony and Laurann about what was the most rewarding aspect of their volunteering, they agreed it was in things like the reaction of the boys they took to the movies, "We got thanked so many times." One of the boys said it was, "A hundred times super awesome!" For the Wespys, the reward was simply in the serving. Tony added that volunteering had actually helped in their personal lives by bringing their small group closer together, "We're not just a small group. We're like family now."

The Wespys are a wonderful example of a life of faith coupled with deeds. They do their part; whether, it is something as simple as sorting through clothes or giving their time. Tony and Laurann truly are "the closest to being angels."
